@Spairo, I'll end this discussion here. But just to let you know, I went through madrassas all my childhood having been born in a dominant muslim town. I started reading the Quran myself since I was 12, I still own my copy to date. Over time, I have also read holy books from other religions, christianity, hinduism, budhisim to name a few. I'm also an avid reader of other people's ideas and opinions on religion and its interaction with society. I watch religious channels from time to time to update myself on their dogmas and any shift in their thinking.
I am and will never be an authority on religion. My arguments are based on self convictions and I arrive towards them by careful thought, observation, and sometimes gut feelings. I have lived in Europe, Africa, the middle East and Asia for extended periods of time to understand their respective customs and ways of life. I must admit that each offers its unique flavour when it comes to religion and society. Trust me, I don't rely on CNN or Al-jazeera alone to know what goes on in any country.
If you want me to answer whether muslims are free in France or not, I'll answer in the affirmative. Remember, there are no absolutes. Living in Yemen confronted me with an extreme form of islam modeled on traditions that would make France paradise for muslims.
