Orientalists have been busy distorting its meaning for the last few centuries (as they have with Jihad - which means struggle, usually within self, not necessarily war with others, although it could, in one specific instance, mean that too)

I urge you to read up a bit about Islam. The religion asks for its followers to respect other people, regardless of religion, and especially people of the book (Jews and Christians). However, unlike Christianity, Islam is not for turning the other cheek - if there is any oppression anywhere, it is a muslim's duty to fight it until oppression is no more.

As for your other statements about rape loot and plunder - Islamic laws of war are so strict, even cutting fruiting trees is frowned upon, let alone rape or plunder. You clearly have no clue about this religion you have so liberally attacked.
