Ngoma-Inc will on Sunday 12th April '09 hold the first ever Jazz in the Park concert in Kenya, at the Sunken Law Courts car park, Nairobi. The event which will feature Kenyan Jazz artists such as Aaron Rimbui (Krucial Keys), Izzo Mugunda, Smooth Licks, Dave Mobb Otieno, Banku Africa, Gravity Band Bakulutu Kenya, Danger and Funk unit among others.

As it is evident in this blog, my love for the arts transcends across not just fine art but also through Neo Soul , Jazz and African music.
When I cam across this art work - of neo soul, soul and Jazz female artists, I was TOTALLY blown away.
You know that feeling you get when a music track has had its grip on you, when that painting totally consumes you, when you are lost in that moment- that is how it felt looking at these paintings!
The captured emotion, the soulfulness of the colours, expression and mood is without a doubt an inspired work of art.For an artist to capture and reflect these elements in a painting, there has to be more than just love for painting.
His name is Steven Lopez and his collection is called After Midnight Soul. he also happens to be a die hard fan of all his painting subjects.
Erykah Badu is the subject of a new art piece by respected Los Angeles artist Steven Lopez, who will feature the soul singer in the latest piece in his "After Midnight Series."
The series has already featured musical greats such as Chaka Kahn, Sade Adu, Aretha Franklin, India Arie, and Jill Scott. Now, it's Badu's turn.
To work with Badu is an honor says the artist, "Erykah is one of my favorite artists of all time and I've been looking forward to interpreting her music, since I saw her perform in 2005 during the 'Sugar Water' tour stop at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles."
Lopez researches each artist's photo history, discography, and live performances to begin the creative process. Once versed visually and aurally, he selects a favorite and many times inspirational song to focus on and begin the painting process. Of course, after midnight.
His manner of painting, synergistically with music, is heavily influenced and constantly nurtured at the world famous Mint Club in Los Angeles, where he performs his craft in front of a live jazz audience regularly. Jazz, soul, funk, and hip-hop are all ingrained into Lopez's artistic style, beginning with his days as a respected graffiti artist and to his current exploits as a contemporary artist with a unique vision.
I would love to have one of these paintings hanging on my sitting room wall.
