What is a Good City: Public Space, Transport, and Quality of Life
A talk by Enrique Peñalosa
VENUE: Education Building, Main Campus, University of Nairobi
Friday, October 16, 2009
9AM – 12PM
During his tenure as mayor of Bogotá, Mr. Peñalosa was able to successfully transform a city defined as chaotic and hopeless into a city that is now an international model for urban development. Mr. Peñalosa will discuss how he championed this transformation through various efforts, including increased citizen involvement, creating a new and highly successful bus-based transit system, and turning a dilapidated downtown avenue into a dynamic pedestrian public space. Mr. Peñalosa will share the obstacles experienced, many of which are similar to those facing Nairobi, lessons learned during his tenure as Mayor of Bogotá, as well as the critical elements needed in urban development to achieve a higher quality of life.
His family waits, the pots are all empty

It is now readily in the public domain that young boys and girls/teenagers are engaging in sex at an early age than traditionally was. Worse is that most are engaging in unprotected casual sex with multiple partners .This has been the subject of media commentaries this week with talks of supplying Kids with condoms in Kenyan schools being fronted by so called"experts" as a necessary precaution. That issue in itself is a moral minefield with divergent views. However unknown to many parents a new culture is slowly driving the youths to this 'uncanny' behavior and inordinate interest in sex;" sexting !".
"Now, he's undoubtedly a charming young man, but the photo of 'Graham Nduko Osoro' on p8 of today's Nation is further argument in favour of banning poetry in Kenyan schools.
Poor boy looks like he's squeezing out his post-Visiting Day constipation. And how did his legs sink so deeply into the ground?"
What do we need to do to change the way students are taught performance poetry in schools, starting with these teachers. That is why most students come out with a very negative attitude towards poetry only to discover that its not the way they were taught.
This is over-dramatization at its worst!! and he was made to do that!
Can I get a sponsor to get some 10 more poets and do an awareness campaign in various schools on the 21st style of poetry performance?
Just checked it out and I can't help but agree...The enthusiasim is there(definitely!)and I guess the passion in art is more important than most other things because if you have that the rest can follow.I feel that all he needs is someone to show them. I was of the same mind wangari,so feel free to call on me if you need a hand(or a poet...)"
