  Tommorrow a new year begins for me...am excited il spend my bday catching up on sleep cos i havent had a slow day for sometime
  Morning could however change that should i decide to give into the randomness streak that i seem to have bit into hard

  I'm one who generally tough out my ailments. Whether it's a headache, or something more serious, I don't usually take medicine; that is unless I am on the brink of precipice. I am not encouraging you all to follow my somewhat misguided footsteps, but, I question prescription medicines that are increasingly flaunted like 'holy spirit' cures that will cleanse disease and sin from the masses.
  
  I'm sure you've all heard the ads ... "Cure for an upset stomach! Side effects include bleeding nose, difficulty breathing, joint pain, stunted growth, liver and kidney failure. Some other serious side effects may occur. Ask your doctor if this path to an early demise is for you!
  
  
  
  In boarding high school, we'd go to the nurse exhibiting symptoms of the plague, a broken rib, and a mysterious itchy growth on the knee, and all we'd get is a couple of Panadol pain killers, and a half-tablet of Piriton [which is an allergy tablet] to help you sleep it off. These two drugs were the panacea of all diseases, infections, and mutations. Naturally, I learned to survive.
  
  The only medicine I'll be taking voluntarily are those alcoholic mixtures aptly named 'Dawa' at Carnivore in Nairobi. For you Toronto folks, if you didn't know yet, they serve them at Manyatta Restaurant Yorkville. It's not your average drinking hole, so bring at least a week's pay.

  Seren Waters and Abeed Janmohamed have been at it again for the Weybridge Cricket Club this week. Playing against Guildford Cricket Club in the Premier Division of the Surrey Championship in the unusual format of 'timed' one day cricket, Waters picked up 4/86 with the ball off a marathon 22 overs, and once again backed it up with the bat contributing an aggressive 46. Janmohamed came in with team in trouble at 89/5, before contributing a fighting 52 not out. His efforts were in vain as Weybridge fell well short of the required target.
  
  Ragheb Aga put in a solid allround performance himself for the Sussex 2nd XI this week in a One Day match against Hampshire 2nd XI. Aga blasted 23 off just 19 balls with the bat, before chipping in with 1/16 off 5 overs opening the bowling for Sussex 2nds.
  
  Moses Otieno turning out for the Combined Services team, has been in good wicket taking form of late, including hauls of 4/39 against Cambridge University, 1/29 against Police and a 3 wicket haul against a touring side.

  I have always had a great relationship with my dad and its always been easier to talk to him than to anyone else. Like any other daughter, my dad's opinion means a great deal to me. My dad was the one with candy or bar of chocolate every day after work and that was something to look forward to. Our love for reading was from my dad who had am extensive collection of James Hadley Chase and many African Authors. Then there was the usual magazines like Weekly Review, Viva, Drum, Joe, True Love. I remember going for picnics after Church, Safari Rally during Easter Holidays, Upcountry for Christmas. My love for sports must come from watching Boxing Matches on telly and live, watching Football made in Germany,World Cup, Wrestling and Olympics. Then there was the movies and the music, my love for old music from all the LPs plus our battery operated player that still comes out to feature on special occasions.
  It is said that ladies tend to look for their fathers in the men that they date. My dad is the kind of person who asserts themselves quietly, dependable, can get along with anyone, giving, proud and a great achiever.As time passes and i get older i now see him for who he is and yet i still know that he is the best that there ever will be.
  Here's to my daddy dearest, my No.1 man, and all other men who step up and take care of business. You are truly appreciated and loved. Happy Father's day Baba Gish.

  Is today the day?

  Well according to an article in the Daily Nation it is. In the first mention of cricket in about a month the Nation has claimed that Cricket Kenya will announce the new Kenya Cricket Captain today (Sunday 21st June). No official word has actually been heard from Cricket Kenya themselves, but other sources tell me that the Captaincy interviews have been concluded and now we are just waiting on the selection comittee to make their final decision, so today does seem likely. With the team due to jet out for Ireland next Sunday, it is also likely that the travelling squad will be announced at the same time - though with the need get visas organised in advance, it may well be that this is already known to those travelling. It will be interesting to see whether the recent form in the practice game has altered any plans and if Kenya's overseas contingent (who have been in good form of late) will be included. If they are in the mix, it will be the first time for a good while that the selectors will really have to think hard about who is chosen and who will miss out. Here's hoping we see the strongest possible team to take on the Irish, we will need it.
