Prahlad, the Nepalese intern, confirms that these (Made in China) umbrellas are also sold in Kathmandu, Nepal - but!, Ahabwe - the intern from Uganda who’s come to join us for the next two months - brought this typical low-budget umbrella (I’ve so far only seen abroad, but never in Europe) from Cape Town (SA) the other day.
That’s a lot of love for an umbrella that actually only costs EUR 2,40 (~ 30 ZAR) and isn’t available in Northern Europe (where the current weather suggests that umbrellas should be given out for free…).
I guess that’s what happens when you’re responsible for a wife and a baby and have to save on just about everything.

ODM Statement in full

Not even a mention of the people who lost their lives! Especially the young people who truly believed they are protesting for a good cause and who were responding to “mass action.”
I predict this is the beginning of the end of ODM. Since it is clear that we will still firmly remain in a tribal math game as far as political assignments and barring the appearance of some new blood, my looking glass says…
Ruto wants the top prize, and this unfortunate backtrack by Raila firmly puts him (Ruto) in the drivers seat. Emboldened by the numbers he can carry in Rift Valley, expect Ruto to work to bring others into the fold as he engineers his ODM takeover. It looks like Ababu is his proxy for Western, turncoat Kalonzo (who’s also against the implementation for Waki) won’t be averse to being wooed for Eastern, Balala will be the Coast proxy, and Uhuru might be open to seeking an effective counter measure to Karua (or at worst the central vote would be split). Raila won’t be left with many cards to play, IF, he decided to split ODM…even some Nyanza guys are starting to build distance. He has Mudavadi, who cannot deliver Western solidly and might be able to make overtures to Ngilu (or gasp! Uhuru) but that’s about it.
It’s all so depressing…ain’t it?
I still believe the Waki issue gives Kenyans a small window to get rid of the whole lot and the rotting institutions that prop them up…or at the very least…an opportunity to get re-energized about radical change… so I will continue to focus my energies on that.

» You Missed This Far be it from me to condone impunity. We all know that what happened after the elections was one of the most devastating events to have occured in Kenya. In a perfect world, it would be wise and prudent to ferociously come after the men who orchestrated the mayhem that was visited on Kenyans. But this is not a perfect world. In deciding to walk away from the Waki findings, our elected leaders took only one thing into consideration...the impact of implementing the report.
There were two possible outcomes here:
1. By trying to implement this monster, the gentlemen who have been adversely mentioned in the report would not have taken it lying down. So what, you ask? Well, have you considered that these men are at the helm of tribal chieftaincies? Have you considered that as of now they retain the influence to destabilize major parties...and by extension the nation? That is a fact we can't just wish away. So if we come after these men we risk antagonizing whole communities and creating another round of ill feeling at a time when Kenya is evidently healing.
Let the healing prevail.
2. The other outcome would be that we drive the nails in the coffins of these guys and let nature take its course. If Kenya ignites afresh in an orgy of bloodletting, so be it. The problem with that thinking is that it undermines the peace we've worked hard to restore. I don't care what the U.S. and the German ambassadors say. What I know for sure is that when Kenya ignites, they'll send in American and German planes to whisk their nationals to safety. We don't have the luxury of listening to their misguided sermons. In anycase, when was the last time you heard ambassador Ogego tell the Americans how to run their affairs? And when was the last time you saw any of our ambassadors pretend to understand somebody's country better than the people who were born and bred there?
I detest the role these two men have played since the debacle that was our elections. I may disagree with Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka on other matters, but on this one I call on Kenyans to heed his advice...let's not open another can of worms foolishly. We must proudly take out matching orders from our understanding of our issues, our background and how they affect us. That's why we have brains.
Kudos to our leaders for calling this right!

Another Week Bites The Dust
» My part of the world....... Anyone who knows the Acolyte will tell you that in many ways he is child like. You see much as a child will play with a new toy every day and then one day toss it to the curb is how I am when it comes to a joke. I shall run it over in my head and laugh at it for days at the most inopportune moments.
A good case in point is a certain live performance by Keith Sweat. Here is the link, as usual he starts out by begging for the ass but it gets fun for me at the 7:45 mark when Akon makes a surprise appearance on stage. Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaay didn't Keith Sweat play his ass! You know those ones of 10 - 0,I bet he was walking off stage for real. I would if a whole stadium was laughing at me. The worst thing is that I remembered that segment of the song at work when the Head of our Department was dressing us down after a meeting, so while people are looking at the ground in fake remorse or looking at each other in fake confusion; I was there failing at stifling a grin. Good times! Sadly I'll give that incident a day or two and I won't find it funny anymore. But the girl on the table in the last post and the belly dancer still crack me up!

Sadly my 1 month of working a 4 day work week is over. No more 3 day weekends. I had become rather fond of having my end of week be on a Friday despite the longer work days I ended up having as a result. I just now want to shed the insomnia that for some reason I have gotten over the past week, I have been sleeping an average of only 4-5 hours per night. The funny thing though is that I am not that worn out but my mind does go on it's own tangents during the day.
Well today is Halloween aka Dress Like A Whore Day, other than my usual ceremonies done under the cover of darkness I won't be doing much of note. I'm way too old to trick or treat and I'm too broke to give the neighborhood kids any candy.
