I ask this question having already seen what this man is made of. Kalonzo has shown his true colors and they are not pretty. When president Moi attempted to impose Kenyatta Jr. on our good nation, through his failed project, we saw what we thought was a new Stephen. He seemed to have seen the light and come out from behind the veil that had blinded our leaders and covered the country. We even thought he was ready for primetime and before Raila led us down the Tosha road, we thought mmmmh …. interesting …. Kalonzo has grown himself a pair of nuts, we like those nuts, this could just be the guy. We even shouted his name “Kalonzo” “Kalonzo” hoping we could drown the tosha drum beat. Looking back, I see a number of judgment errors on our part; Kalonzo was a strong defender of KANU and the KANU record of corruption. Kalonzo defended the man, the system and the regime; he fought tooth and nail and only parted ways with Toroitich when Toro could not be of personal political gain to him. Naively, we may have seen this stand against the status quo as Mr. Kalonzo reflecting our values, our ideals, our hopes but we were mistaken. Kalonzo may have excellent strategy and political expedience, he may have nine lives and he knows how to make Kalonzo relevant beyond his support, but I am now convinced he is a just a politician, a self interested politician, I will even go further and say a selfish politician ‘bila msimamo’. One may say, KANU years are KANU years, and that you can pin that KANU monkey on a lot of our politicians - Ruto, Mudavadi, Kibaki, Nyachae the list is long and I agree, we do not know about these individuals, but Kalonzo is now exposed. Let us look at his record, his post KANU record. Kalonzo seems to never have gone past the Kibaki tosha moment and like a scavenger with no standard he has waited for Raila to toss him a bone. Knowing that Raila was the wind behind Kibaki’s sail home, Kalonzo waited for Raila to make his Tosha 2 declaration. To earn him some marks, Kalonzo even tried to be on the right side of history during the Referendum, and Kenyans, wanting to believe that Kalonzo’s conversion was real assigned their values to his actions. He even would have died for Raila at one time. An interesting turn of events happened once Kalonzo knew that the declaration and impending coronation was not forthcoming, with nothing to personally gain, he orchestrated night time burglary, of the ODM Kenya registration papers, with his accomplices Daniel Maanzo and Julia Ojiambo, thinking that, the papers equal votes (This is how far the concepts of democracy are foreign to this self interested politician) Kalonzo was ready for the big time. No agenda, no vision, no following, by hook or crook, or what he called a miracle, he was going to be President. Well, we know how that story ends, a distant third, single digit percentage, was the value people assigned to his antics. But wait, Kenyan politics has a funny way of rewarding losers, I just read that the hyena has his bone and is proudly gnawing on it. With the patience of a crocodile, this dinosaur has reinvented himself not only as pro Kibaki, but as his VP. Hongera Bwana Kilonzo, but it must be amnesia on your part or are you counting on amnesia on our part. Do you remember your own words “I will die for Raila” Do your own words mean anything? Or is it too much to expect some consistency on your part? Three, no even two months ago, you were Kibaki’s harshest critic. Where did this new found love come from? Learn a lesson from your predecessor Uncle Moody. He was hailed as chairman of the Summit at one point, he now is on the political trash heap, rejected by his own. I am not disappointed that Kalonzo would take the position offered to him by this illegitimate government; I am disgusted, that to this date he has not stated his position on the flawed election. He has not condemned the rigging; he has not called it free and fair, he has not even put forward a road map for peace. Like the ruthless opportunist he is, Kalonzo has no stand on this loss of property, life or democracy and if asked about it, I am sure he will give you the answer that gives him the most personal gain. Everything else is just trivial. When Kalonzo was asked if he was surprised with the appointment, he said “I not surprised by the appointment,” “I have been consulting before the announcement.” This man will use any situation for personal gain.

and burning anger at the thugs. However it is some of my friends who
have evoked that sense of disbelief in me. I’m talking of people that

When Kenya gained independence, it was with a multi-party constitution under the „Majimbo“ (federal) system. It slowly evolved into a one party sytem by 1969 under the leadership of the flamboyant orator Mr. Jomo Kenyatta. These oratorical skills were of importance back then in the denouncing of the colonial ills, and these he wielded with shrewdness that has never been challenged in the region. The aspect of majimbos fell apart when he made Kenya a republic looking out for prosperity of all Kenyan people after 1963 elections which KANU won. The then existing opposition KADU and APP were drawn into the fold reducing Kenya to a one party system meaning that there were no checks on the powers of the executive that a multi-party system does. This led to a centralisation of all political and economic power around him.

Jomo Kenyatta (middle) and Daniel Arap Moi (second from the left) before Independence
His ideology of a government of political unity survived unscathed 1966. The Limuru Conference in 1966 was the turning point in the blind following of the ideology when it was questioned by Mr. Oginga Odinga and the newly formed Kenya People’s Union (KPU) . Odinga’s ideology was dismissed by the government with chants of Uhuru na Kazi (independence and work) as the lazy Socialist (Marxist). October 1969, during the opening of a hospital in Nyanza, Kenyatta was booed and heckled (a serious shock to him). The presidential escort fired live ammunition into the crowd (what is known today as the Kisumu massacre) killing 11 people. This ideological conflict between Kenyatta and Odinga and the aftermath was quickly transposed into a ethnic rift. This rift was widened and solidified by the assassination of Tom Mboya who was a political hero amongst the Luos and also supported in poor Kikuyu areas, allegedly by the government which was then considered a Kikuyu turf.

An Online-Petition by the “Coalition of Kenyans and Allies for Democracy” with the title “Kibaki must step down” was already signed by more than 10.000 people. Many Blogs are linking to the side.
The Petition backround Text gives an overview about the irregularities during the election.
Interestingly, the homepage of the initiators of the Petition, the Kenyansfordemocracy-Blog, was removed by blogspots’ owner google. Trying to access the side, this text appears:

How the FUZZ can this possibly help matters any?
This is tantamount to eating a man’s lunch, inviting him to dinner to appease him some and then proceeding to eat the dinner before he gets there!!!
One would think that a modicum of sense in the Kibaki administration would last longer than a Brazilian in a British tube station. How wrong one would be! I’d start making sanity comparisons to shithouse rats but the rats are objecting

As predicted by Kumekucha a few days ago, Kibaki's part cabinet is named and our predictions are spot on.
This afternoon 'President' Mwai Kibaki made a live broadcast address to the nation:
" I am pleased to announce part of my Cabinet. In forming the Cabinet, I have considered the importance of keeping the country united, peaceful and prosperous under a strong, broad-based leadership. I am accordingly, naming the first half of my Cabinet as follows:"
(1) Vice President and Minister for Home Affairs - Hon. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, (2) Minister of State for Provincial Administration and Internal Security, Office of the President- Hon. Professor George Saitoti (3) Minister of State for Defence, Office of the President - Hon. Yussuf Mohamed Haji (4) Minister of State for Special Programmes, Office of the President - Hon. Dr. Naomi Namsi Shaban, 5) Minister for Public Service, Office of the President -Hon. Asman Abongotum Kamama, 6) Minister for Finance - Hon. Amos Muhinga Kimunya (7) Minister for Education - Hon. Professor Sam Ongeri (8)Minister for Foreign Affairs - Hon. Moses Wetangula 9) Minister for Local Government - Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta (10) Minister for Information and Communications - Hon. Samuel Lesuron Poghisio (11) Minister for Water and Irrigation - Hon. John Munyes (12) Minister for Energy - Hon. Kiraitu Murungi (13) Minister for Roads and Public Works - Hon. John Njoroge Michuki, MP (14) Minister for Science and Technology - Hon. Noah M. Wekesa (15) Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs - Hon. Martha Karua (16) Minister for East African Community - Hon. Dr. Wilfred Machage (17) Minister for Transport - Hon. Chirau Ali Mwakwere
In brief, the president is telling ODM, President Kuffour, Gordon Brown, Desmond Tutu and Madam Fraser and all 4.5 million Kenyans who voted against him - YOU CAN GO TO HELL, I AM PRESIDENT.
Even as ODM shows goodwill by suspending protest rallies, the president is throwing mud at them by recalling parliament and naming his cabinet. The questions is: Is there need to continue negotiating with an individual who has shown over the last five years that he cannot honour agreement??
Analysis and comments to follow.

The long list of disputed elections in Africa, Kenya being the latest entrant, raises serious questions about the depth of Africa’s commitments to democratic governance. Election as a symbol and means of achieving democracy has often failed to realize its intended goal. Disregard to basic human rights and freedoms, totalitarian rule and other misdemeanors characterize African Socio-Political way of life. Has Democracy failed in Africa? Shouldn’t Africans look for another form of governance? Professor Donald Kagan in "Pericles of Athens and The Birth of Democracy” said that a successful democracy is based on more than elections. He maintained that an examination of the few successful democracies in history suggests that they need to meet three conditions if they are to flourish. The first is to have a good set of institutions. The second is to have a body of citizens who possess a good understanding of the principles of democracy, and who at least have developed a character consistent with the democratic way of life. The third is to have a high quality of leadership, at least in critical moments. There is great evidence in Africa that not a single country has been able to achieve these three pre-conditions for democracy, thus democracy is a failure. The foundation of our democracy is solely laid on Elections. In recognition of these failures, that is, inability to develop robust institutions and the glaring nature of our citizen body coupled with lack of high quality leadership, there is need to analyze importance of elections in our continent. Elections in Africa are a gateway to more problems as we are seeing in most parts of the continent. The question is how long this will continue and how we can change this. It is high time we begin to question whether elections are relevant in Africa given their sticky nature. The Kenyan scenario is evidence to all these. For a country that has been haven for peace since its independence, the country is in turmoil due to the desire of the people to exercise the so called “democratic right”. For Africa elections do one thing: they confer the title of "democratically elected president" which in turn opens the coffers of Brettonwood institutions and other members of the International Community. For long, financial institutions have equated this title to good governance, accountability, respect for human rights etc. But this is not true for most African rulers. I believe that long term economic reform in Africa can succeed only when we have a Marshall plan for Africa like was planned and executed for Western Europe. This plan should acknowledge that under conditions of underdevelopment and continuing economic crisis, where the state remains the primary source of material expectations and aspirations the so called “Democracy” cannot work neither can its election brother. The plan must devise a method for achieving what I would call “good dictatorship” for every African State. African brains must come together and device this plan, through the African Union we can be able to solve our own problems in our own model of governance that reflects the diversity of our people and in the end recognizes these diversities for the better good of this continent.
Why do I bring forth the issue of “good dictatorship”? The case of Singapore under the rule of Lee Kuan Yew comes in mind. As one writer once put it, “Singapore has achieved the American dream, but not in the American way”. This has been done through what they call a Benevolent Dictator. The challenge for Africa would be how to get the right dictators for each African State. With the brains that litter the world with lots of socio-political articles on how Africa can move out of its quagmire, I believe we can work through this and restore some pride in our people, reduce poverty and live a good life. Kenya as an emerging problem can be used as a test programme. The AU chairman, Mr. Kuffour should cease this opportunity to bring about paradigm shift in the way African affairs are run. As a mediator in the post-election turmoil in Kenya, the goal should not just be to bring Raila Odinga and Mwai Kibaki to the table but also to bring about scholars and the African people at large into devising a new front in management of African affairs. In the interim a transitional mechanism should be put in place as the continent engage in the formulation of Marshall Plan. Within a period of 3months a Benevolent Dictator with wide raging powers put under strict institutional checks and balances should be identified and supported by all African nations. A more intelligent solution to a Kenyan problem can solve an African problem.What do you think?

Money, food, transport have been in short supply in many rural areas affected by the violence. Equally crippling has been the lack of communication capability where there has been no electricity (poles brought down/lines cut) or shops (closed/looted/overpriced) selling mobile phone airtime. People in urban areas have been sending airtime up-country by the thousands to stranded friends and relatives, while others from overseas (and even within Kenya) have turned to Mamamikes – who apologize for some logistcial delays and problems that may have been experienced in the transfer process. Apparently looters at the Kenyan Coast are one by one returning what they stole in the post election skirmishes. A spell has been cast on all those who took what didn't belong to them. A six day ultimatum placed has had the looters running scared with majority of them returning the goods late in the night while others are doing it in a broad day light. It is said that at least two people have fallen victim to this curse, one is no longer able to pee while the other broke is backbone while getting naughty in bed. I appeal to these Coastarians to cast the same spell to any presidential and parliamentary candidate who might have stolen the right of Kenyans to choose their leaders. Blogged with Flock

Watching Kenya go up in flames is comparable to a house go up in flames? The initial reaction is always to put out the fire first or help the victims and only after the fire is out is the problem analysis done. Why are we doing it differently this time? Why start with the fingerpointing other than handling the problem at hand? Ethnic violence.
Many would want to say that the flawed election is the core source of all this but we all know that it was only a catalyst to an already existing problem.
Every one who calls themselves learned are saying that they cant shed blood. You know, stuff like “An, I CANT KILL YOU,NEVER!” I believe we are all responsible for what’s happening to Kenya in different ways.
Last year during the campaigns I was the office head of the PNU camp and my office mate the ODM camp and it being our first day at work this year we naturally started talking politics.
Since the election I have had this attitude that the whole electoral system needs an overhaul,rigging was done but we need to embrace peace since Kenya as a country is greater than any one of us. So that is the message I started preaching…you know not defending Kibaki or the ECK.

Excerpts of Richard's email to Kumekucha;
"Are you aware ECK is yet to release the final tally to Kenyans? The 1 million votes that gave Kibaki the final figure are yet to be broken down. The Meru and Central Kenya 90% turnout was never carried by the press..."
Kumekucha's comment: They're probably still cooking.----------------- I urge Kenyans to read the first few comments to my previous post.
Inaonekana niliamsha nyuki mpaka akatapika ukweli (It looks like I provoked a bee until it vomitted the hidden truth.
I am referring to the comment by one Kimi Raikkonen.
At one point Bwama Kimi says;
I am very, very glad that Kibaki did what he he had to do to stop that demon called Raila from bringing back KANU looters to continue from where they left off, and also blocked what would have been an effort to bring back unwarranted British and Arab influence in our daily lives.
I don't need to add anything, that is the genesis of the problem in Kenya.
Lastly I leave you with a question;
Since when was it possible for a mere opposition party to rig elections?
Please give me a precedent of where else in the world it has happened?
The truth is that the government stuffed votes in Raila's strongholds so as to give the impression that it was not totally responsible for the rigging. And my did it work like a dream? Anybody in doubt, just read Bwana Kimi's full comment which I reproduce in full, below his post, incase he tries to delete it. The message is to Kenyans is clear. It is; "Yes, I have rigged what will you do about it." or in sheng; "Nime-rig. Muta-do?"
If the opposition had any power to rig, why didn't they just rig the whole election and win?
I am convinced that the way to save lives in Kenya now and in the future is to speak the truth and nohing but the TRUTH. This blog does not support ODM or Raila, we support TRUTH, JUSTICE and DEMOCRACY. The majority of Kenyans voted against the illegal government now in State House and any fool can see that from the parliamentary results. That is the truth.
The minute I am convinced that the majority of Kenyans voted PNU and Kibaki, then I will change accordingly.
This nonsense of denial is what has cost as so many lives and this crisis.
Why new elections is the best way forward by Ralph Murage
Kimi Raikkonen said... This is typical of the breathless ignorance of a large number of Kenyans who think that having their views endorsed by equally ignorant Western Newspaper Journalists amounts to being awarded a medal of honour. The Economist and their supporters can shout until the cows come home, but Kibaki is a reality in State house that will not go away anytime soon. Instead of perpetuating jealous and infantile hatred while pretending to be a paragon of political wisdom, i suggest you educate yourself and other ODM supporters that the elections are now behind us, that both sides rigged massively in their strongholds, and that the more powerful group, using the power of incumbency, ended up trumps.
Your insane and obstinate intolerance of Kibaki and prejudiced view of Kikuyus in General will not change the reality that Kikuyus are Kenya citizens by rights. Kikuyus will not succumb to a wicked horde of spiteful and murderous bigots in the name of ODM, no matter how often you demonise them as having stolen Kenya's wealth. This of course, is the genesis of all the trouble we are now experiencing in Kenya. ODM succesfully ganged up other Kenya tribes against Kikuyus in the misplaced perception that Kikuyus had eaten enough, and that if you remove Kibaki from power you will also get rich. What utter rubbish! If any of the Kikuyu are wealthy, and very many are, it is because they earned it, not because you and ODM did them any favours. They have made their wealth inspite of hostility and primitive jealousy from people like you and will continue to do so, upende msipende, and if you don't like it you can go jump off a cliff.
I am very, very glad that Kibaki did what he he had to do to stop that demon called Raila from bringing back KANU looters to continue from where they left off, and also blocked what would have been an effort to bring back unwarranted British and Arab influence in our daily lives. Our very independence was at stake. Bravo Kibaki for protecting our freedom and independence.
