The Envelope, The Tribunals and The Hague

While Kenyans are practising their cheerleading skills every time the words envelope, tribunal and The Hague are used in a sentence, my personal tune is not quite so merry. You may chalk up my lack of enthusiasm to these old bones, but I insist I am not quite that old! I am still waiting to be the future of my beloved Kenya.

As for the envelope in the hands of one Luis Moreno-Ocampo, I am dismayed that it contains only 10 names. Indulge me here for a minute. Let’s assume that the 10 people named are guilty. Easy enough… right?

The suspected individuals only have two hands a piece but let’s make all of them ambidextrous. For the sake of argument, we can also throw in some basic super powers like the ability to work tirelessly without the natural need for nourishment. Now imagine them slashing blindly left and right using both hands, non-stop. No food breaks which means no bathroom breaks and no sleep… super powers, remember?

If the above scenario were true, no more than 100 or 200 people would have died in the ensuing debacle. I would hope the Kenyan public would be so horrified at the sight of these killing machines they would speedily bring them face to face with the much touted mkono mrefu wa sheria.

Eager as we are to point an accusatory finger at the waheshimiwas, we have three fingers pointing back at us. Dare we have a personal standard of integrity to hold up to our leaders?

  1. Dorcas, my comment here is slightly off subject and I apologize for that in advance but I have a problem with The Hague being the world court for the rest of us. From the begining of time the Dutch people have been a very violent people perpetuating thousands of atrocities against all enemies and peoples being conquered. No where is this more true than in East and South Africa. We all know this from history. Yet during what we call world war two, the Dutch could not hold their own against the Germans and all the armies of the allies had to come to their aid.

Now they have set themselves up as the world court to tell all of the rest of us how to conduct ourselves. And just look at the Dutch today. They have legalized most all activities that are criminal offenses in other countries. Although I had read about it, I had not seen the activities in person until this past New Years Eve. I had a 8 hour layover in Amsterdam waiting for my flight to Nairobi so I decided to go on a picture taking walk through town. Well all that I heard is true and is available for all to see right on the streets. I have many pictures of these activities. Stores are openly selling drugs to smoke with huge display windows for all to see. Rather than say what it is, they call the mj, seeds. And it was very cold that day, -5C, about 25F, and I went into several coffee shops to warm up. In every coffee shop, people were sitting around smoking mj and in many shops the air was thick with smoke. And on other streets the prostitues openly display themselves behind windows for rent/sale. Plus there are many stores with large windows advertising all sorts of sex products and lewd trashy t-shirts and signs right out in the open with no regard for the sensibilities of others expecially children. I also understand that harder drugs are available through many government programs.

These are the people who have set themselves up as the world court, jeeze! I have no respect for these people and am inclined to discount any court decision handed down by these “people”.

Somehow I can’t help feeling that you already know the answers to all the concerns you raise in your comment. That said, I will add my kawaida theories and see how they hold up under your scrutiny.

The Hague is just a physical location for the world court. Read more about it here

As for the court telling you what to do, they are not cramming it down your throat. Read more about that here.

As for your visit to Amsterdam, congratulations on a rather busy schedule. However, I am not quite sure that eight hours is enough to judge a country or its people. They have their reasons for doing what they do. Imagine if the US legalized drugs and started taxing them. The $9 trillion deficit would have a major dent on it. Again, they are running their country how they see fit.

I am for advertising sex products. I sikia Kenyans have to adapt special skills when buying condoms. If we stop being such prudes about something as natural as sex, then may be we can have open conversations about AIDS and other STIs.
